During our last trip to Japan we met Andy Cruz from House Industries that most recently collaborated with Herman Miller in Japan for a limited series of Eames Office wire frame tables.
We want to share with you their beautiful work for Hermès.
Sired from custom cut solid Wisconsin cedar and equitationally interlocking House Industries letterforms, their hand-drawn Hermès horse gracefully canters through a harlequin carousel of letter-borne livery with exceptional alphabetic dressage. Stoutly-sculptured cedar characters draped with signature Hermès stablemates carry on the motif throughout twelve animated window installations.

STELLAR WORKS is a new contemporary design brand committed to bridging cultures and revisiting traditional crafts to create desirable furniture designs and interior objects for the modern lifestyle. The creative ethos of STELLAR WORKS involves cross-cultural sampling, eclectically mixing design elements, textures, materials and techniques and transforming them into new design typologies.
Developed and launched in close collaboration with OeO, STELLAR WORKS is a fresh new brand proudly made in Shanghai. The designs are produced at a state-of-the-art facility in Shanghai by highly professional teams of local and international craftspeople from China, Japan and France. STELLAR WORKS not only targets Western markets but also the increasingly sophisticated Chinese audiences, who eschew big-name brands in favour of original home-grown designs.

STELLAR WORKS launched its first five collections at the 2011 China International Furniture Expo where it was awarded a gold medal and garnered massive attention from dealers and the international media.

Kyoto enjoys a unique sense of identity and is home to many artisans and craftspeople. Last month we at OeO travelled to Kyoto to visit our client HOSOO, a textile brand established in 1688 and specialised in superior quality fabrics for high-end interior design projects and fashion.
OeO also took part in a special TV documentary on STELLAR WORKS and Japanese crafts, which will be broadcast on Japan’s biggest TV channel on 5 January 2012, reaching approx. 50 million viewers. The documentary features factory visits and interviews with, among others, Japanese fashion designer Junko Koshino, the Mayor of Kyoto, and the Italian Consul in Kyoto.

The Dutch designer duo Stefan Scholten & Carole Baijings have been twice honoured
with prizes for their textile collection for HAY.
Dutch Design Award Best Consumer Product 2011
‘With these woollen rugs and bed linens, the husband-and-wife team of Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings are building on their oeuvre with its “own grammar of colour”, which continues to surprise. Particularly remarkable on the pillow cases and sheets, from a technical standpoint, are the grids printed in varying thicknesses and the shifting strips of striking colour that interrupt the pattern.’
Sanoma Woonaward Best Home Product 2011
‘In the first place, the textile collection designed by Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings for Danish manufacturer HAY is highly versatile. The extensive collection includes bed linens, tea towels and rugs. The graphic patterns on the bed linens, in particular, are stand-out elements, combining bright hues with more subdued colours. Not only are the patterns characteristic of the designer duo’s creative vision, they also ensure that the designs cannot be compared to any existing collection. In addition to its unique character, the collection’s accessible price range is worth noting, as it makes the collection attractive to a broad market.’

Petits Frères is a triumvirate of lamps, inspired by early machines and industrial architecture. Each is individual in character and personality, while remaining a part of the family entity. Aside from the difference in form and color, there is a diversification of switch mechanisms, each in accordance with the shape and function of the lamp. The lamps can be seen as siblings, alike and at the same time very different.
